LOS ANGELES Capping a frenzied deal pace on the eve of AFM 2004, veteran attorney / Producer’s Rep. Harris Tulchin announced the closing of 6 film deals and Tulchin Entertainment’s Senior VP of Acquisitions & Sales, Paul Hazen, announced the acquisition of 6 new films in the expanding library of 46 films available for worldwide distribution through Tulchin Entertainment.

Tulchin, along with Eric Gardner of Panacea Entertainment, concluded an international licensing deal with Content Films International for the hilarious horror-comedy ELVIRA'S HAUNTED HILLS starring Elvira and The Rocky Horror Picture Show's Richard O'Brien

Allied Entertainment acquired the International rights to the Tulchin repped comedic, urban crime-caper thriller THE GRISTLE, a story about eight businessmen in four groups, who are attempting to complete two very different, nefarious business deals.  The film is playing on HBO and Starz-Encore presently and Lightyear Entertainment, which releases its product through Warner Home Video, has recently released the domestic home video and DVD of THE GRISTLE.

Lightyear Entertainment / Warner Home Video also picked up the domestic home video rights to the action packed medieval adventure thriller WESTENDER, about one man’s long journey to redemption. The film was directed by Brock Morse and stars Blake Stadel (“Neil Simon’s Plaza Suite”, “The Circle”), Rob Simonsen, John Rankin, Darlene Dadras, and Rod James. International buyers have also been hovering around the table and Tulchin expects to announce a deal during the market.

Artist View Entertainment acquired all Domestic rights from Tulchin to THE FACE OF THE SERPENT, an action thriller with strong political undertones of local government corruption. MTI Home Video will be releasing the film later this year.

CinemaVault Releasing picked up the worldwide rights to TRAIL OF PASSION,  noir-ish erotic thriller that takes you along for the ride with our Heroine as she plunges into a bizarre underworld of sex, drugs and murder.  Starring Kevin Hopkins (Sensitive New Age Killer), International Adult Film legend Ron Jeremy (Warner Brother’s “Surreal Life,” Boondock Saints, Rules Of Attraction, Underworld), Susanne Hausschmid (Fishnet), Frank Bren (Sensitive New Age Killer), and Felicity Anderson.  The film was directed by talented Aussie filmmaker Mark Savage.

THE LAST KENNEDY, a political thriller revolving around a conspiracy to assassinate the first African American president was picked up for International distribution by Echelon Entertainment.  This very special film, which contains an abundance of action, is told through the eyes of the assassin’s wife in an engaging and challenging feature that weaves suspense and intrigue into a story about the human spirit persevering in the face of tragedy.

The 6 new films recently acquired by Tulchin Entertainment include:

SENSITIVE NEW AGE KILLER is a darkly comedic look at a loving husband, caring father, and good friend who also happens to be a contract killer. Released by Twentieth Century Fox in the director's homeland of Australia, the film stars Paul Moder (Bullet In The Ass), Kevin Hopkins (Trail Of Passion), Frank Bren (Trail Of Passion), and Helen Hopkins (Fishnet).  The tension rises as his personal and professional life come too close together and he’ll have to shoot his way out.

Night Corridor, directed by one of Hong Kong’s most promising directors Julian Lee (The Accident), is a stunning, stylistic, psychological suspense thriller featuring a command performance by rising star Daniel Wu (Around the World in Eighty Days, Police Story 5, Love Undercover) and an incredible supporting cast including Hong Kong stars Eddy Ko (PTU, The Mission, Lethal Weapon 4), Kuk Fung (War of the Underworld, The Deadly Sin), and Ying-Hung Wai (Visible Secret, Dragon From Shaolin). When a London-based artist is called back to Hong Kong after his twin brother is shredded to pieces by rabid monkeys, his life spirals out of control when he is forced to confront the demons from his own sexually tortured past, as well as, the demonic supernatural forces of evil that harbor the real truth behind the mysterious and grizzly murder.

15, an official selection of the 2004 Sundance Film Festival & 2003 Venice Film Festival, is more disturbing than KIDS and more realistic than BETTER LUCK TOMORROW and Time Magazine calls it "the best film to come out of Singapore in years".  15 is a raw and provoking story of five 15 year old delinquent youths in Singapore: estranged and shunned from their families, schools, and mainstream society.  They live their lives in a complete state of indolence filled with MTV, cartoons, tattoos, piercing, music, drugs, and sexual fantasies. The film reveals the gritty side of modern-day Singapore life that many never knew existed.

NGATAHI:  KNOW THE LINKS, also an official selection of the 2004 Sundance Film Festival, is from the legendary hip-hop artist Dean Hapeta. It is a fresh, urban socio-politically charged  “rapumentary,” that documents New Zealand’s pioneering hip hop figure’s first hand journey into the international world of hip hop, poetry, street art, activism and street life. AN official selection of the 2004 Sundance Film Festival, NGATAHI: KNOW THE LINKS follows Hapeta everywhere from New York to Paris, Sydney to Kingston, and Ottawa to Columbia as he illustrates an in-depth, first person take on hip-hop culture around the world.

A SWEET SENSATION , executive-produced by Melvin Van Peebles, tells the tale of a married man who brings home a homeless ex-girlfriend and pleads desperately with his irate wife to accommodate the destitute ex, but anger and jealousy turn into a vicious confrontation and sudden death. A SWEET SENSATION is a complex and compelling domestic thriller about love, jealousy, illicit sex, reckless behavior and uninhibited lust.  The unexpected twists and turns are as thought provoking as they are frightening and alluring.

FIVE YEARS, which Variety calls “An admirably polished Indie debut” is an absolutely absorbing Hitchcockian style thriller about an attractive young woman, Renee Unger, who is living the life she always hoped for. When her husband's younger brother, Colson, is released from prison, where he served five years for murder, Renee's perfect life is torn apart and shredded to pieces.  As Renee peels away the lies, suspicion and deception hurl the family toward a dreadful and violent collision. Hailed by audiences and critics alike, FIVE YEARS garnered BEST FEATURE FILM (Victoria Independent Film Festival), BEST OF FESTIVAL (Sarasota Independent Film Festival) and BEST SCREENPLAY (Avignon Film Festival).

Tulchin is also at AFM to promote “The Independent Film Producer’s Survival Guide: A Business And Legal Sourcebook,” a step by step guide to the legal, business, production, and distribution issues unique to independent filmmaking, published by Schirmer Press, New York, co-authored with Gunnar Erickson and Mark Halloran, which is now available for sale at the AFMA store at the Loews Hotel and at Tulchin’s website www.medialawyer.com. Acquired on the eve of Cannes to allow for time to compete with the upcoming Christmas release of Peter Pan, Tulchin announced he will be licensing NEVERLAND, produced, written and directed by Damion Dietz and co-produced with Stephanie Orff, starring Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: Nemesis, Stand By Me, Flubber), Rick Sparks, and Melany Bell, a daring, bold and startling retelling of the classic children’s novel.  NEVERLAND unfolds against an ultra-modern, hyper-realistic backdrop of a burnt-out suburban amusement park filled with self-styled fairies, lost punks, and performers.  The ultimate fantasy/adventure story becomes a fascinating nightmare at the hands of Captain Hook, who is hell bent on destroying youth and beauty which he so desperately envies.  NEVERLAND is a striking motion picture that artfully exposes the sinister side of the fairy tale that is seared into our pop-cultural consciousness.

DEVIL’S KNIGHT is a Latino themed urban-action thriller packed with car chases, shootouts, military operations, and an explosive soundtrack and climaxing car chase reminiscent of The Fast and the Furious and The French Connection.  DEVIL’S KNIGHT stars Garry Marshall (The Princess Diaries, A League of Their Own, Pretty Woman) Martin Kove (The Karate Kid, Rambo: First Blood Part II, Last House on the Left), Pepe Serna (Kingpin, Scarface, The Jerk), Elizabeth Alvarez (Vin Diesel’s  A Man Apart), and Joey Medina  (The Original Latin Kings of Comedy).  This is the first film in twenty years to focus in and around the low-rider culture of Los Angeles.  Starring both old and new talents from the Latin community, and involving the artistic automotive design talents of George Barris (The Fast and the Furious I & II, XXX, Batman), this film will strap you in for an unforgettable ride.  Although no deals have yet closed, Tulchin has received numerous offers for the Domestic and International Rights for DEVIL’S KNIGHT.

Shot in real time, Domingo Vara’s 5IVE tantalizes the senses by combining drama and suspense into a feverously fast paced ride of entertainment.  David Andriole (Barb Wire, Freeway, “Sunset Beach”), Darryl Sims (Romeo & Juliet Revisited), Giovanna Brokaw (Destiny, Echoes of Enlightenment), Pilar Camporredondo (Judas Kiss, Bazaar), and Sandra Thigpen (The Ring, Monkeybone, Curdled, The Cable Guy) star as strangers trapped together in an elevator during a major earthquake.  As the story develops, we flashback to what the characters’ lives were like previous to being placed in this life-threatening predicament.  Each time we think the situation is as bad as it can get -- it gets worse.

The erotic horror thriller NIGHT CREEP, starring Christine Sparks (Rules of Engagement), Don Calfa  (Return of the Living Dead, The Progeny, Bugsy, The Man Who Wasn’t There), Patty Scanlon (Magnolia, Man in the Moon, Dance with Me), Paula Shaw (Freddy Vs. Jason, Insomnia, Lake Placid, Reindeer Games), Kjell Bjorgen (Teaching Mrs. Tingle), and Greg Travis (Starship Troopers, Lost Highway, Showgirls) tells the story of a dazzling exotic dancer, Cindy Cinnamon, who struggles to maintain her sanity as her grasp on reality weakens.  When it is revealed that someone is sneaking into her room every night… Cindy’s horrible recurring nightmare becomes real.

The medieval action yarn WESTENDER stars Blake Stadel (Neil Simon’s Plaza Suite, “The Circle”) as Asbrey of Westender, a once famed and heroic knight who has now become a poor and shiftless drunk.  When Asbrey drunkenly loses his only valuable possession, a precious ring, in a game of chance in a tavern, he and his newfound companion Glim set off on a quest to get it back, no matter what the cost.  WESTENDER will have its worldwide premiere at the Seattle Film Festival on June 13th and 15th.

The hilarious horror-comedy ELVIRA’S HAUNTED HILLS, produced by Mark Pierson, stars Cassandra Peterson (Elvira Mistress of the Dark, Encounter In the Third Dimension) as the voluptuous milky-white skinned black haired beauty Elvira, who is forced to spend a frightfully funny night in the haunted castle of Lord Vladimere Hellsubus in 1851 Transylvania.  Richard O’Brien (The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Dungeons & Dragons, Ever After), Mary Scheer (“Mad TV”, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, “Hey Arnold”), Scott Atkinson (Windtalkers, “Six Feet Under”, “Providence”) and Mary Jo Smith (One Night At McCool’s, Flinstones In Viva Rock Vegas, American Virgin) co-star in this laugh-out-loud scarefest directed by Sam Irvin (Kiss Of A Stranger, Oblivion 1 & 2, Guilty As Charged).

WEST OF HERE is an emotional and musical ride starring Mary Stuart Masterson (Benny & Joon, Bed of Roses, Fried Green Tomatoes, At Close Range), Tate Donovan (Hercules, Memphis Belle, Love Potion #9, “Friends”, “Ally McBeal”), Josh Hamilton (Ice Age, The Bourne Identity, Alive!, The House of Yes), and Elisabeth Moss (“The West Wing”, “Picket Fences”, Mumford, Anywhere But Here, Girl Interrupted). When Gil Blackwell’s normal Bostonian way of life is upset by the death of his best friend and singing partner, Josiah, Gil escapes to head west to California seeking comfort in the road and their music.  The soundtrack features new songs from the multi-platinum selling Big Head Todd & The Monsters whose new album “Riviera” has just been released, as well as a new duet with Mary Stuart Masterson.  Worldwide Distribution Rights were sold by Tulchin less than a week after he made the film available for sale.

Mr. Tulchin will also be speaking at the American Pavilion Workshop Series on how to finance your independent movie.  Contact the American Pavilion for details.
